Work on New Vernon Wendy's Moving Along

VERNON, CT — Construction of the new Wendy's on Route 83 in Vernon was showing considerable progress late last week and on Monday. A sign was up showing the fast food restaurant's logo and the foundation was poured.

Formal construction on the Vernon Wendy's began earlier this month and the target is for the popular fast food restaurant to open in early November, the town's economic development coordinator has said.

The Wendy's is slated to go next to the Vernon Taco Bell, which sits at 129 Talcottville Road, the local address for that section of Route 83. Delays of any sort would change the schedule, officials said. The current driveway at the traffic light will be used, along with a new right-turn-only lane out front, officials said.

Improvements to the Hockanum River trail system will coincide with the project, municipal officials said.

The franchise will be be owned and operated by Meritage Hospitality.

The fast food chain has been looking to set up shop in Vernon for about seven years, officials said.
