Gigante’s Deli Closes Permanently In Wallingford
The family made the announcement with "heavy hearts" on Friday.
WALLINGFORD, CT — After nearly 50 years in business, Gigante’s Deli in Wallingford is closing its doors for good, the owners announced Friday. The family’s second location, Gigante’s Too on East Center Street, will remain open.
Gigante’s Too is temporarily closed due to the new coronavirus pandemic. The family said that while the coronavirus may have expedited the decision to close the original Gigante’s location, at 117 Church St., they had been talking about it for some time.
“Forty-eight years ago my family started Gigante’s Deli in Wallingford,” Grace Giulietti wrote in a post on the Positively Wallingford community Facebook group. “Throughout that time, we have been honored to get to know and serve the wonderful families of our community. It is with heavy hearts we are announcing that we are closing the doors of Gigante’s Deli permanently. While the corona virus may have expedited this decision, we must emphasize this has been a conversation in the works for some time. We genuinely feel the members of our community have become part of our extended family, which is making retirement bittersweet. We would like to thank all of our guests, and especially our regulars, who have continuously supported us throughout the years. Happy retirement to my brothers.
