Legendary Wallingford Coach Dies, Mourned

The Wallingford community is mourning the death of Bob Neubauer, who was a longtime coach at both Sheehan and Lyman Hall high schools.

WALLINGFORD, CT — The Wallingford community is mourning the death of Bob Neubauer, who was a longtime coach at both Sheehan and Lyman Hall high schools.

Neubauer died Wednesday in Florida at the age of 80, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

Neubauer started the cross country and baseball programs at Sheehan and also coached both sports at Lyman Hall earlier in his career, according to the Record-Journal. He led the Lyman Hall baseball team to the state title in 1969 and the baseball field at Sheehan was named in his honor in 2016.

The Sheehan baseball team announced his passing in a post on Twitter on Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness to share that former Sheehan baseball coach Bob Neubauer has passed away,” the post reads. “It is a privilege to step onto a field every day that bears his name. The entire Sheehan community mourns today, and our condolences go out to his entire family.”

The Sheehan Athletic Department wrote in a post on Twitter, “Coach Neubauer laid a strong foundation of hard work, moral values, competitive spirit, & sportsmanship that lives on today. Condolences to the Neubauer family & the thousands of young men/women he mentored on his journey. May you rest in peace, Coach Neubs #LegendsNeverDie”
