Lyman Hall’s Tournament Run Ends In Class L Baseball Semifinals

The 22nd-seeded Trojans won three games in the state tournament and battled No. 2 Berlin in the semifinal round on Tuesday.

WALLINGFORD, CT — The Lyman Hall baseball team’s impressive run through the Class L state tournament came to an end with an 8-5 semifinal loss to second-seeded Berlin on Tuesday night at Palmer Field in Middletown.

The 22nd-seeded Trojans took an early 1-0 lead when Anthony Boyle drove in Aidan Weir with a single in the top of the first inning.

Berlin (21-3) took control of the game with seven runs in the bottom of the second.

Lyman Hall battled back with two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 7-3. Justin Hackett had an RBI triple and Boyle drove in another run.

The Trojans added another run in the fourth on Ryan Brockett’s RBI double. Tyler Casey made it a 7-5 game with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.

Berlin added another run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the victory.

The Redcoats will play top-seeded Daniel Hand (20-1) in the championship game Saturday night at Palmer Field.

Lyman Hall, which went 9-9 during the regular season, won three games in the tournament.

The Trojans opened with a 6-1 victory over No. 11 Wilcox Tech in the first round, then shut down sixth-seeded Fitch 6-0 in the second round and edged No. 19 North Haven by a score of 7-5 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
