WALLINGFORD, CT — Popular Wallingford doughnut shop Neil's Donuts will officially open a second location in Middletown. Neil’s announced plans for the new shop in late February, saying that the rumors were “99% true” in a post on Facebook. The contract wasn’t signed at the time, but they were hopeful of opening on South Main Street in Middletown this summer.

Neil’s Donuts shared a photo on Facebook Thursday of owner Neil Bukowski officially signing the lease.

“The lease is officially signed, but with the ongoing pandemic, building & renovations are taking a little longer,” the post on Facebook reads. “The new opening date is projected to be Fall 2020!”

The new shop will be located at 211 South Main St. in Middletown. Neil's is well-known for its New York-style donuts and bakery items. In addition to its famous donuts, Neil's serves pastries, Danish, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and other baked goods. It is located at 83 North Turnpike Rd. in the Yalesville section of Wallingford.

The Middletown location will be about 1,000-square-feet larger than the original in Wallingford and will have a drive-thru, the Meriden Record-Journal previously reported. It will also focus mainly on donuts, muffins, coffee and breakfast sandwiches and not the additional items currently available at the Wallingford location.

The development should help Middletown doughnut lovers overcome the loss of The Rolling Doughnut last year. The Rolling Doughnut, a food truck featuring fresh-made gourmet doughnuts, was widely popular in Middletown but owner Scott Gordon announced last May that his family decided to move out of state.
