Obituary: Douglas Townsend, 93, of Wallingford
Doug, known as a "Gentleman's Gentleman", worked for American Cyanamid and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Wallingford.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Douglas Townsend, 93, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Leona (Tinker) Townsend for 67 years, passed away peacefully May 29, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital with family by his side.
Doug was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 28, 1928, the son of the late Harmon and Christine (Duthie) Townsend. His family moved to Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada where he lived until moving to Wallingford.
He enjoyed his yearly return to be with family on Campobello Island, a place that was near and dear to him.
Doug served in the United States Army during World War Two. He worked for American Cyanamid in Wallingford for over 37 years and enjoyed a 28-year retirement.
His family remembers him as a “Gentleman’s Gentleman” as he was a tall, kind-hearted man. He was a devoted and active 65-year member of the First Baptist Church in Wallingford where he served as treasurer-secretary for many years.
He loved square dancing and was a member of the Silver Square’s. He enjoyed listening to country music and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. He also enjoyed walking the track at Choate and going to breakfast and meeting with friends at Duchess.
In addition to his wife, Leona, he is survived by his loving daughter, Debra Russo and her husband, Nicholas of Meriden; and his cherished grandson, Joshua Russo of Meriden.
Doug’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 5 pm until 7 pm.
His funeral will be held at 11 am on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Wallingford. You can view his service via livestream by going to his webpage at www.wallingfordfh.com at 11 am on Thursday.
Interment with military honors will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
