Police: Man Shot Woman In Wallingford, Then Committed Suicide

Leanne Burger-Mestel was allegedly shot by a man she was dating early Sunday morning.

A 54-year-old Wallingford woman was shot early Sunday morning by a man police believe later killed himself.

The Hartford Courant reports that an unidentified man rang the doorbell of Leanne Burger-Mestel's home at 43 Heritage Woods in Wallingford at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. When she answered the door, the man allegedly shot her and then took another shot at another person who was in the home.

The man was later found dead Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to The Hartford Courant. The man and Burger-Mestel allegedly had a relationship, according to The Courant.

Burger-Mestel underwent surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and she is now stable condition, according to the newspaper.
