Severe Thunderstorm Watch Now Issued For Wallingford

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect until 8 p.m. for Wallingford, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service: "Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area from this afternoon into tonight ahead of a slow moving cold front. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms have the potential to move across the same area, leading to flash flooding."

"Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected across the ... area, with locally higher amounts possible," the National Weather Service states.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, "Plenty of low level shear means any storms that develop today could rotate. We'll be watching the radar closely."

Here are the details on the severe weather via the National Weather Service:

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before 3am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3am and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 68. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
