Sheehan’s McDonnell Reaches 1,000-Career Point Milestone

WALLINGFORD, CT — Jack McDonnell became the sixth player in Sheehan boys’ basketball history to score 1,000 career points during Monday night’s loss to town rival Lyman Hall.

McDonnell, Sheehan’s senior captain, attained his milestone with a layup in the first quarter. McDonnell was grateful after the game that host Lyman Hall allowed his family to see him score his 1,000th career point.

Lyman Hall is one of many schools allowing just parents from the home team, not visiting fans, to watch games during the coronavirus pandemic, according to GameTimeCT.com. However, while Lyman Hall didn’t have a place for McDonnell’s family in the gym, they let them stand in the hall and kept the doors open so that they could see his milestone moment, GameTimeCT reports.

McDonnell wrote a post on Twitter after the game, thanking Lyman Hall for the gesture.

“Thank you to @LHHSAthletics for being as accommodating as possible, given the circumstances, tonight with my family and I,” he wrote. “Cannot express how appreciative my family and I are.”

Lyman Hall improved to 4-0 with a 47-35 victory, while Sheehan fell to 2-3.
