Strong Thunderstorms Moving Through Parts Of New Haven, Middlesex and New London Counties

The National Weather Service has just issued an advisory for parts of Connecticut. BREAKING

The National Weather Service said that "A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT NEW LONDON...MIDDLESEX AND CENTRAL NEW HAVEN COUNTIES."

At 504 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Lake Pocotopaug--East Hampton to near Southington. Movement was northeast at 25 mph.

Additional thunderstorms were developing over the remainder of southeastern Connecticut and spreading north.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Jewett City, Meriden, Middletown, Wallingford, Norwich, Glastonbury, New London, Guilford, Wolcott, Colchester, Plainfield, Clinton, East Hampton, Groton and Old Saybrook.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Central Fairfield County in southern Connecticut...Northern Middlesex County in southern Connecticut...New Haven County in southern Connecticut...

* Until 700 PM EDT

* At 503 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...Waterbury, Danbury, Meriden, Middletown, Wallingford, Shelton, Glastonbury, Naugatuck, Guilford, Southbury, Wolcott, East Hampton, Durham, Newtown and Hamden.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
