Wallingford’s Mushinsky Named Deputy Speaker Of The House
Mary Mushinsky was recently re-elected to represent Wallingford in the state House of Representatives 85th District.
WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford’s Mary Mushinsky has been reappointed as Deputy Speaker of the state House of Representatives, House Speaker-designate Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) announced Thursday.
Mushinsky was re-elected in November to represent Wallingford in the 85th District.
"Mary is one of the most respected and longest-serving members in our caucus, and her knowledge of this institution and how it operates is second to none," Ritter said in a statement. "I look forward to her serving as Deputy Speaker as we work to solve the challenges Connecticut faces."

The Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives when the Speaker of the House is not present in the chamber. Those serving in the role of Deputy Speaker recognize all members wishing to speak to the chamber, put all questions to vote and direct legislation to the proper committees.
"I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility that comes with being Deputy Speaker, and I am ready to work with Speaker Ritter on many pressing issues during the coming legislative session," Mushinsky said.

A biologist by trade, Mushinsky currently serves on the Environment, Finance, Revenue & Bonding, and Higher Education & Employment committees.
