Wallingford Superintendent Menzo Leaving School District
Wallingford Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Menzo announced Friday that he is leaving the district for a new position.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Menzo is leaving after 12 years with the district.
Menzo announced Friday with “mixed emotions” that he has accepted the position of Superintendent of Goodwin University Magnet Schools effective July 1.
“This decision was not an easy one; however, this is an opportunity that will allow me to continue to grow personally and professionally,” Menzo wrote in a message to the school community. “Over the last twelve years in Wallingford, I was blessed to work with so many talented students and staff. Together, we transformed many aspects of the district to provide incredible learning experiences. In doing so, we generated innovation and increased the capacity in each other to ensure we were meeting the needs of all students in an equitable manner.

“As I reflected the last few days on writing this letter, I was filled with so many memories and emotions. From reconfiguration, Oakdale High, and now a global pandemic, my experiences in Wallingford have impacted me personally and professionally. I know not all the times were easy or without bumps along the way; however, I also know that I committed myself wholly to my work and Wallingford was my home for a significant portion of my career.
“During my time in Wallingford, I tried my best to be involved in both the school and town community. Attending school and community activities was so important for me as I became closer to those to whom I was dedicated. I am so proud of the many accomplishments of students and staff during my tenure. From having our first State of Connecticut Teacher of the Year to State Championship athletic teams and music groups, Wallingford was in the spotlight for excellence inside and outside of the classroom. During this time, the district became more and more known throughout the state, country, and internationally due to the hard work and dedication of our Board of education, staff members, and students.

“Now, much like our high school seniors, I, too, am preparing for a new beginning. I am confident that I will apply what I have learned in Wallingford and continue to strive to do my best on behalf of all students, families, and staff. I have grown so much due to this amazing experience. I cannot possibly thank everyone enough for your personal and professional support. We are family, and I am grateful for that.
“Again, thank you to all of the students, families, and staff for your support over the last twelve years. You have accomplished so much. I am so excited to continue to watch the Wallingford Public School District excel and grow in the years to come. There is a spirit in this community like no other. The passion and commitment to each other is enveloping. Thank you again for letting me be part of the family. I am transformed from this experience and ready to take on my next adventure.”
