Wallingford YMCA Member Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Due to the recent surge in coronavirus cases, masks will be required in all areas of the YMCA's facilities as of Nov. 14, officials said.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A member of the Wallingford Family YMCA’s West Side Branch has tested positive for the coronavirus, officials announced Friday.

Officials determined the person was not in close contact with one or more people while at the facility.

“The Wallingford Family YMCA and Wallingford Health Department are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all members & staff,” according to a joint message from Sean Doherty, executive director of the Wallingford Family YMCA, and Wallingford Health Director Stephen A. Civitelli. “We continue to proactively health screen and temperature check anyone who enters our facilities, including vendors, members & staff, and apply enhanced cleaning protocols. We follow all state & local COVID-19 operating protocols and social distancing practices.”

YMCA management “continues to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 virus and will make the necessary operational changes” to keep members safe while attending any of them YMCA facilities and programs, the message reads.

Due to the recent surge of coronavirus cases, and Gov. Ned Lamont’s direction to local health, masks will be required in all areas of the YMCA’s facilities as of Nov. 14, according to Doherty.

“The only exception is during aquatics activities,” Doherty said. “Masks are required in areas previously designated as ‘mask optional’ including the West Side functional training area, personal training rooms and East Side Racquetball Courts. Group exercise class participants are now also required to wear masks.”
