3 Charged When Stolen Car Crashes Into Police Car In Waterford
Three New Britain teens are facing numerous charges connected to theft from cars after a crash Wednesday.
WATERFORD, CT — Three people from New Britain are facing charges related to stealing from vehicles after their stolen car crashed into a police vehicle, according to Waterford police. Police received a report at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday about unknown people stealing from vehicles in the area of New Shore Road. Another resident reported to police that their silver 2015 BMW had been stolen from their driveway.
Police located the car on Gardeners Wood Road and attempted to stop it, but the car fled, according to police. A second stolen car, a black BMW out of Windsor, was also spotted but fled as well.
At about 7:20 a.m., police received a report of the silver BMW in the area of New Shore Road. Again the car fled police. Police did not pursue the car, but the driver fled down Great Neck Road and made an illegal left turn, crashing into an oncoming police vehicle.

The BMW driver got out of the car and fled on foot. Police caught him in a swamp near where the wreck occurred. Police said they found a handgun and other stolen items in the car. The gun had been stolen from Middletown in a previous theft from a vehicle, according to police.
All those involved in the crash were treated and released from a local hospital.

The driver of the BMW and two passengers were arrested. Gerard Hines, 18, of New Britain, faces numerous charges including stealing a firearm, assault on a police officer, second-degree larceny, and possession of marijuana greater than four ounces. He was held on $75,000 bond.
Angel Echevaria, 18, of New Britain, also faces several charges including stealing a firearm, second-degree larceny, and possession of marijuana greater than four ounces. He was held on $50,000 bond.
A 15-year-old teen from New Britain was also held on related charges.
