Expect CT Gas Prices To Climb This Summer: How Much?

Nationally, prices at the pump have hit their highest point in nearly three years and will likely continue to climb, according to AAA.

The bad news is gas prices in Connecticut are up this week, but the even worse news is they are expected to continue rising into summer, according to AAA Northeast. According to a news release, the statewide average price of a gallon of regular gas in Connecticut on Wednesday was $2.79, which is five cents higher than in that time frame the previous week. Compared to last year, prices are 11 cents higher.

On the national level, average prices are registering $2.71, also up five cents from last week. Compared to last year however, prices are up a dime.

"National prices at the pump have hit their highest point in nearly three years and will likely continue to climb because of higher crude oil prices, unrest in the Middle East, growing driver demand, record production rates and a global supply surplus," AAA Northeast spokesman Fran Mayko said in a release. "Consumers can expect gas prices to increase another 5 to 10 cents this season although the national average isn’t expected to break the $3 mark."
