Former Quaker Hill Pastor Drowns During Family Vacation

Rev. Gregory Hamby, a former pastor at the Quaker Hill Baptist Church, drowned Monday while vacationing on the South Carolina shoreline with his family, the Hartford Courant reports.

Hamby, who was most recently serving as a pastor at the First Baptist Church in Essex, spent 13 years in Waterford. He was 52 years old, according to the Courant.

"He was very outgoing. He helped the Quaker Hill church become more involved in outreach ministry in the community," said Rev. Judy Allbee, executive minister of the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut.
