Former Waterford Fire Chief Charged With DUI: Report

The former fire chief of Cohanzie, who recently resigned from his position, was charged with driving under the influence.

WATERFORD, CT —The former fire chief of Cohanzie, who resigned recently over insensitive comments he posted on social media, was arrested by Waterford police Friday on drunk driving charges, The Day reported. Todd Branche was also charged with carrying a loaded firearm while intoxicated and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Police received a call Friday morning regarding a driver striking a stop sign at Dayton Road and Dayton Place, then continuing to drive. Police stopped Branche shortly thereafter, according to The Day.

He was released on a $1000 non-surety bond.

Branche resigned from his post at the chief of Cohanzie Fire Co. #5 last week. The move came after he posted comments on social media that were termed "insensitive, inappropriate and divisive" by First Selectman Rob Brule.
