Man Charged In Waterford Bathroom Spying Incident: Police

Police arrested a man on allegations that he used a mirror to spy on a juvenile in a store bathroom.

WATERFORD, CT — A man was arrested Monday on accusations that he used a mirror to spy on a juvenile in a women's restroom, according to police. Shelton Hendricks, 61, of 152 Broad St., Floor #1 in Norwich, was charged with first-degree stalking and risk of injury to a minor.

He was held on $250,000 bond.

Police said that they responded to a call Thursday at 12:23 p.m. at the Christmas Tree Shop at the Crystal Mall at 850 Hartford Road in Waterford. The call was regarding a man who had entered the women’s restroom and placed a mirror under the stall and into the next stall, which was occupied by a juvenile.

Police did not initially locate the suspect at the mall. They the posted photos to a social media account asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and as a result, several people contacted police with information.

The suspect was identified on Friday, and police located and interviewed him Saturday. Police then obtained a warrant and arrested Hendricks Monday morning.

He is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.
