WATERFORD, CT — A pedestrian was struck and killed in a Monday morning car crash on Niantic River Road, according to FOX 61. An 80-year-old driver heading southbound hit a 21-year-old man.

The victim was a landscaper who was working in or near the side of the road. He was critically injured and transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital where he later died, according to FOX 61.

The victim has not been identified.

Police said in a Facebook post that Niantic River Road would be closed for several hours as investigation continues.

Niantic River Road is closed in the area of #168 due to a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries. The road will be closed for several hours so please avoid the area.
