Obituary: Barbara Johnston, 81, Of Waterford

WATERFORD, CT — Barbara Johnston, 81 years, of Waterford passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Fairview Convalescent Odd Fellows Home. She was born on February 2, 1937 in Mount Vernon, New York the daughter of the late August and the late Helen (née DeCarlo) Nardone.

She and Charles F. Johnston Jr. were married on May 19, 1957 in Mount Vernon, New York and together over 61 years of marriage they enjoyed cruising the high seas on various cruise ships. She was well known for her Christmas decorations, which brought delight to all her family and friends. Gardening was another passion of Barbara as was she was at one with nature.

Survivors include: her husband, Charles F. Johnston Jr.; two daughters Barbara LaFever and her husband Raymond of Waterford, Joan Erickson and her husband Douglas; a son Charles F. Johnston III and his wife Elaine; a sister, Dorothy Zeitelhack and four grandchildren, Megan Erickson, Christopher Erickson, Danielle Bonacum, and Nicholas LaFever. She was predeceased by a brother, August Nardone.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 27 from 11 a.m. at St. Paul Church (401 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford). Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home (48 Grand Street, Niantic). Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook.
