Opening Day Looms for Waterford High School Teams

WATERFORD, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and many preseason scrimmages have been played, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Waterford High School. For a complete season schedule of Lancer varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• girls soccer - Thursday, 9/6, vs. East Lyme, 5 p.m.
• football - Thursday, 9/6, at Ledyard, 6:30 p.m.
• boys soccer - Thursday, 9/6, vs. East Lyme, 7 p.m.
• cross country - Saturday, 9/8, at Windham Invitational, TBA
• girls volleyball - Saturday, 9/8, at Valley Regional, 1:30 p.m.
• field hockey - Saturday, 9/8, at Valley Regional, 3 p.m.
• girls swimming - Wednesday, 9/12, at Woodland, 4:30 p.m.
