Report: Speedbowl Racing To Finish Stands For Summer Opening
The general manager of the New London Waterford Speedbowl says '100 percent' planning on running events this year into late fall if need be.

WATERFORD, CT—The New London Waterford Speedbowl general manager and town planning and zoning officials told The Day that new grandstand "plans and permit applications are under review for the first time this year" pointing to an anticipated summer opening of the race track.
Collaterally affected by the sex trafficking conviction of its former owner, Bruce Bemer, manager Mike Serluca told the paper, "We are 100 percent planning on running events this year. I don't know how many I can guarantee at this time. If I have to run into November, it'll be cold but I'll get these guys as many races as they can race."
The more than six decade old race track, a Waterford fixture, is being outfitted with new grandstands, which has delayed an opening. The Day reported that plans to open in May, and then June, have been further delayed as old stands were torn down and new stands are being built. Which entails more than had previously been anticipated apparently including "the need to create drainage to better control rainwater from the parking lot area..."

Still, Serluca sounded optimistic though there hasn't been much activity on its social media and on its website, the last update is from May 20.
"We are still under construction at the track. There will be no racing the entire month of May. We will post an update as soon as we have a better time-frame for completion of the project. Thank you for your continued support!"
