Unsung Hero: Alexandria DeGunia, Waterford
Waterford Patch debuts this new periodic column, which features young student-athletes who go above and beyond.

WATERFORD, CT — Today we inaugurate a new periodic series on Waterford Patch, highlighting young student-athletes who are considered "unsung heroes." They are not necessarily the big star, but rather one who works hard, is a good student, is a positive influence and strives for the betterment of his or her school and/or community.
Name: Alexandria DeGunia
School: New London Science and Technology Magnet High School, grade 10
Sports: track, cross country
Nominated by: Jamie DeGunia
"I am writing to you in regards to an outstanding student, athlete and leader in the community. Alexandria DeGunia is all of this. She has played three varsity sports (indoor and outdoor track and cross country, both freshman and sophomore year). By no means is she the fastest runner, but always there, always on time and puts her heart and soul into it. She is the president of her sophomore class, maintains a 4.7 GPA, is a Gunnery Sergeant with the Three Rivers Young Marines and a member of the Naval Junior ROTC. All of this while maintaining a part time job at Ivy’s Simply Homemade in Waterford. Alexandria knows the true meaning of hard work and dedication."
