Waterford Author Writes Novel Based in New London County
Paul Petrone's novel references local businesses that New London County residents will surely recognize.
WATERFORD, CT - Waterford resident and former Patch editor Paul Petrone, 31, recently released Dan Berith and the Plight of the Lions, a novel based primarily in New London, Conn.
The novel focuses on the lives of Dan Berith and Marcus Stuberd of New London, along with Akil Dhakir of Afghanistan. The three men have similar personalities but very different lives, which are perceived differently through the lens of America, Petrone explained in a press release.
New London County residents will recognize local businesses from the novel, including Hot Rod Café, Hanafin’s Irish Pub, Sunset Ribs and local newspaper The Day. He described the novel as a mix of humor, seriousness and thought-provoking content.

“Yes, I wanted to write a novel that touched on big issues, like the ongoing war on terror and American race relations,” Petrone said in a press release. “But, primarily, I wanted to write something that was both fun to read and fast to read. I promise you one thing about Dan Berith and the Plight of the Lions — you absolutely will not be able to put it down.”

Petrone was born and raised in Salem, Conn. and now lives in Waterford. A lifelong resident of New London County, he is a graduate of both East Lyme High School and the University of Connecticut.
Petrone previously worked at The Day and The Norwich Bulletin, before becoming the editor of the Waterford Patch in 2010, a job he held until 2013. He currently works in marketing at LinkedIn.
