UNCASVILLE, CT — A 10-0 run late in the first quarter broke open a tie game, and some accurate long-range shooting in the first half enabled Waterford to post a 90-67 victory over Avon in the championship game of the Division III boys basketball tournament Sunday morning at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Jay Jay Brennan drained a trio of three-point shots and Mikey Buscetto added a pair during a 25-point second quarter that opened up a 42-26 halftime advantage for the Lancers. Waterford finished the game with eight treys on 16 attempts.

Trailing by 25 opening the fourth quarter, Avon ran off 10 straight points to close the gap to 15, but Waterford gradually pulled away to ensure the school's first boys basketball title since winning the Clas M crown in 2012.
