Waterford Health Company To Pay $28K For Improper Hiring
A home health company has agreed to pay $28,246 to resolve improper hiring allegations.
WATERFORD, CT — A home health company has agreed to pay $28,246 to resolve allegations that they improperly employed a man who was excluded from all federal healthcare programs, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
CareCo Medical Inc. is Waterford-based home healthcare organization that provides skilled nursing services, medical social worker services, and rehabilitative therapies. The company is owned by Helga Pfanner.
According to prosecutors, CareCo and Pfanner hired Todd Roberts in 2018. In 2012, Roberts, a physical therapist, had pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing a federal audit and, in a civil settlement agreement, agreed to pay $328,828.

In addition, Roberts entered into a 6-year agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services designed to ensure future compliance with the requirements of the Medicare program, according to prosecutors.
Roberts later defaulted on his obligations under the agreement and was excluded from all federal health care programs in 2015.

He worked at CareCo as a manager from November 2018 to March 2019.
