Waterford Parks and Recreation Not Happy About Campfires on Beach

The department has put out a reminder on social media about campfires on the beach.

WATERFORD, CT- Park and Recreation have put out a reminder to citizens that campfires are not permitted on the beaches.

According to a recent Facebook post by the department, people have been going to the beaches overnight and having fires. This is a problem, as the area is too dry for it.

Furthermore, people have not been cleaning up after themselves and have been leaving the fires to extinguish on their own. Maintenance personnel have been burned when removing logs on the beach due to this.

Embers in the sand are a danger to residents and other beach-goers, including children. Five piles of burning ember were cleared from the beach on Monday alone.

The fire residue has been a common occurrence at both Waterford and Pleasure Beach, and the department asks that residents do their part to refrain from it happening all summer.
