Waterford Police Encounter Man With Handgun
Police arrived at a Spithead Road residence Monday night to find a man carrying a handgun, demanding everyone to leave the property.
WATERFORD, CT — Police arrived at a Spithead Road residence Monday night and encountered a man carrying a handgun. Police were called at 7:59 p.m. for a welfare check on a 69-year-old man, which was requested by the man's family members.
When police arrived, the man opened the door carrying a handgun with his finger on the trigger and demanded everyone to leave the property. Police were able to safely remove family members and a downstairs tenant.
After police secured the area, the man left his home at 8:20 p.m. unarmed. He was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Police later found the weapon was a BB gun. The incident remains under investigation.
