2 West Haven Schools Temporarily Switching To Distance Learning
The school district is closing Tuesday and two schools are operating remotely due to staffing issues over coronavirus cases and quarantining

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two West Haven schools are temporarily moving to remote learning and all schools in the district will be closed on Tuesday due to staffing issues over coronavirus cases, officials announced on Monday.
In a message to parents, Superintendent of Schools Neil Cavallaro said he was informed over the weekend of several positive COVID-19 test results for “both staff and students.”
Since anyone who has been identified as a close contact needs to quarantine, that has “caused a staffing shortage throughout the school district,” according to Cavallaro.

Carrigan Intermediate School and West Haven High School have been particularly impacted by the quarantining and both schools will temporarily move to remote learning as a result.
Both schools will move to remote learning beginning Thursday, Nov. 12. Carrigan will operate remotely for the rest of this week and West Haven High until Friday, Nov. 20, according to Cavallaro.

In addition, all schools will be closed on Nov. 10 with no remote learning, Cavallaro said. Schools are also closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.
“Closing tomorrow will give us time to deploy additional personnel, as needed, to the six elementary schools, which will remain open,” Cavallaro said. “Bailey is staying open as well. As of now, most staff there are able to report to work.”
The elementary schools and Bailey Middle School will remain open while Carrigan and West Haven High School are operating remotely. Since all schools are closed Tuesday, the last day of the school year will be pushed back to June 16 (instead of June 15), according to Cavallaro.
