Latest West Haven Coronavirus Infection, Vaccine Rate Updates

WEST HAVEN, CT — The coronavirus vaccination pace has slowed in Connecticut, but the state’s infection rate has dropped dramatically in recent weeks.

Around 47 percent of Connecticut’s total population is fully vaccinated; 58 percent have received at least one dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than seven out of every 10 adults has received at least one dose.

In West Haven 20,251 residents have been fully vaccinated as of May 12, which is about 37 percent of the total population — in total 48 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Cases

Connecticut’s infection rate continues to plummet, and there are only 26 municipalities in the red zone warning level for coronavirus infections. There were 12.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 25 and May 8; that is a drop from 17.2 in the previous two-week period.

West Haven recorded 29 new coronavirus cases between May 5 and 13, according to DPH’s preliminary data.

West Haven had 15 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 25 and May 8 and a positive test rate of 2.80 percent. There were 24.9 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period. It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
