The good news is the temps will be in the 60s on the first day of March today but the bad news is that we’re dealing with dense fog, expected heavy downpours, possible thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.

And because weather in New England is so unpredictable, there’s still a chance for some light snow on Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Connecticut and there is also a fog and wind advisory issued. For southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service states that there is a risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with the main threat from damaging winds.

Dense fog may hold on until noon today and winds could gust up to 50 mph at times late tonight and on Thursday. Winds will be sustained between 15 to 25 mph.

In northern Connecticut, it’s the same issues as there is the chance for a few strong-to-severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Winds late tonight and on Thursday will be sustained between 20-30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph at times, the weather service states.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, “There will be two rounds of showers/storm today. The first around 11 a.m. has a very low chance of producing severe weather. The second, around 4 or 5 p.m. has a low chance of producing severe/damaging weather. We'll have to watch both closely!”

He did share some good news, however, in that the severe weather chance did diminish somewhat overnight but it’s still a concern.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, “A foggy start out there! Plan on some downpours even the risk of a thunderstorm. Warm temperatures today, much colder for tomorrow!”
