Obituary: Richard (Dick) Thomas Doyle, Jr., 84, of West Haven
A loving and devoted family man, was known for his generosity, loyalty, strength, unwavering faith, amazing sense of humor and grace.

WEST HAVEN, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) Richard Thomas (Dick) Doyle, Jr., 84, of West Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on Father’s Day, June 20, 2021.
He was the loving husband of Virginia (Dargan) Doyle for more than 58 years.
Dick was born in New Haven, CT, on August 29, 1936, the eldest son of the late Richard Thomas Doyle and Mary (Hussey) Doyle.
In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by three daughters: Maryfaith Doyle Donnelly (Brian Thomas) of Newtown, CT; Patricia Anne Doyle Anderson (John Edward) of Wallingford, CT; and Elizabeth Claire Doyle Considine (Michael John Paul) of Naperville, IL.
He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Conor Thomas, Clare Elizabeth, Patrick Richard, and Katherine Mary Donnelly of Newtown, CT; Kathleen Elizabeth Anderson of Denver, CO; Michael Doyle, Colin Maher, Colleen Elizabeth, Peter Dargan, and Maryfaith Patricia Considine of Naperville, IL.
Dick is survived by his brother Paul Stephen Doyle (Bernice) of Valhalla, NY and is predeceased by his brother John Patrick (Sam) Doyle and his wife Judith. Dick is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Dick grew up in Fair Haven, CT, attended St. Francis Grammar School, graduated from Wilbur Cross High School and Quinnipiac College, and served with the Connecticut National Guard 1953-1960. He started his career in investments with Charles W. Scranton & Co. in 1962.
He later joined A.G. Edwards & Sons in 1970 and retired in 2001 as Vice President of Investments.
Fondly celebrated as the “Master of the House” - Dick was known to all for his devotion to his adored wife and daughters, sage advice, generosity, loyalty, strength, unwavering faith, amazing sense of humor and grace.
He was an avid reader, history buff, sports enthusiast, supporter of the arts and faithful devotee to the many pursuits of his grandchildren.
Dick was a long-time member of The Knights of St. Patrick. He served as the President of the St. Mary’s High School Parents Club and as a lector at Our Lady of Victory Church. He was also a proud member of the Lake Street Beach Crowd, West Haven Civitan and Our Lady of Victory Men’s Club.
Dick was happiest when dancing with Virginia to Big Band music – especially to “You’ll Never Know” at the Red Blazer Too on 46th St. in New York City, family vacations on Block Island, attending Yale and Notre Dame football games, golfing with family and the Fair Haven Crowd, and being surrounded by his loving family.
The hours for visitation will take place on Friday June 25 from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green.
On Saturday morning all are asked to meet directly at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
