Obituary: Salvatore Durso, 90, Of West Haven
At age 87, he proudly graduated from Gateway Community College. He was a lifelong musician and loved playing the role of "Bongos the Clown."

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Salvatore Durso, 90, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2021. Born on July 14, 1930 in New Haven, a son of the late Joseph & Grace Capella Durso, Sal is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine Fields Durso, his children John (Rosemary) Durso, and Diane Durso, 3 beloved grandchildren, Christopher Durso, Alexander Longobardi and Evan Longobardi, and his brother, Robert Durso.
Salvatore retired from the City of New Haven, where he worked in custodial services until his retirement. At age 87, he proudly graduated from Gateway Community College. A lifelong musician, Sal played bass & drums in the piano bar at 500 Blake Street, among other venues. He loved playing the role of “Bongos the Clown,” and entertained many in various parades, parties and events. He was a longtime member of the Clowns of America.
Visitation will take place on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A funeral service will take place on Monday, May 3 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Salvatore’s name may be made to Connecticut Children’s Hospital, www.connecticutchildrens.org.
