WEST HAVEN, CT — Police are advising motorists of several road closures and/or detours that could be in effect due to a protest that it scheduled to take place in West Haven on Saturday. The protest is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, with demonstrators gathering on the Green before marching to the West Haven Police Station.

“We are asking motorists to avoid the roads surrounding the Town Green and the Main Street/Wagner/Saw Mill Road corridor that leads from the Green to the West Haven Police Station as road closers and detours may be in effect to accommodate safe passage of the peaceful demonstrators,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Please expect delays if you plan on traveling in these areas tomorrow…

“Lastly, in response to reported social media posts regarding the possible use of ‘pepper spray’ by members of our agency during Saturday’s protest we want it known the West Haven Police Department has zero tolerance for unreasonable, disproportional, unnecessary, and/or excessive force. In solidarity with the concerns of our community we support peaceful protest with empathy and compassion.”
