Severe Thunderstorm Watch Now Issued For West Haven

BREAKING: The National Weather Service has just issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect until 8 p.m. for West Haven, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service: "Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area from this afternoon into tonight ahead of a slow moving cold front. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms have the potential to move across the same area, leading to flash flooding."

"Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected across the ... area, with locally higher amounts possible," the National Weather Service states.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, "Plenty of low level shear means any storms that develop today could rotate. We'll be watching the radar closely."

This Afternoon: Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 76. South wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before 3am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3am and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 69. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
