The fire department responded to an initial report of a potential oil slick on Wednesday but officials believe the large mass that was spotted was likely seaweed, according to FOX 61.
Health Director Maureen Lillis told the New Haven Register on Wednesday evening that the discolored water was likely the result of an algae bloom.
