West Haven Coronavirus Update: Confirmed Cases At 319
Like across the state, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in West Haven continues to rise. State health officials have confirmed 319.
WEST HAVEN, CT — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus has more than doubled in West Haven over the past week, according to data from state health officials. As of Tuesday, there are now 319 cases in West Haven as opposed to 122 on April 6. Statewide, the number of positive cases jumped to 13,381 on Monday – an increase of 1,346 and the statewide death toll grew to 601, which represents an increase of 48 from Sunday.
In New Haven County, there are now 3,358 cases and 135 deaths while 580 people remain hospitalized. According to state health officials, New Haven County's caseload trails only Fairfield County, where there are 6,004 known confirmed cases (44.8 percent of the statewide total) and 262 deaths.
Mayor Nancy R. Rossi recently announced that per an executive order from Gov. Ned Lamont, an extension of closures of restaurants, bars and other non-essential operations as well as social distancing and other safety measures would be extended through May 20.

Lamont said last week that he remained optimistic that Connecticut could "flatten the curve" of the outbreak as hospitalizations and deaths appear to be going up linearly instead of exponentially. He also said the fight against coronavirus could last a year.
