The Alhambra Water Tower, an iconic structure in Coral Gables, is a testament to the City’s founder George Merrick’s vision for the City Beautiful. Designed by Denman Fink it was built in 1923 to resemble a lighthouse and was used as part of the City’s water supply system until 1931. To save the tower from demolition, the City purchased it in 1951 and an extensive restoration was completed in 1993. Recently, a water test to identify leaks was undertaken on the structure. Areas in need of repair will be identified when the final assessment is complete.
