Angry Birds Chase Miami Peacock Snatcher

Miami police want to speak with a man who was seen snatching a peacock from a Coconut Grove neighborhood.

COCONUT GROVE, FL — A bevy of angry birds chased a peacock snatcher from a Coconut Grove neighborhood on Sunday and now Miami police are looking for him too. Wild peacocks have made their home in this section of Miami for years, much to the consternation of some residents who don't feel that the persistent nighttime screeching, droppings and flagrant sexual encounters add to the curb appeal of their homes. But residents don't want to see fowl play befall their feathered neighbors either.

A homeowner found blood and feathers in her driveway where a bald man was seen on surveillance video running with a cigarette dangling from his mouth as he made off with one of the birds under his arm. He was chased by other peafowl all the way to his red pickup truck that had been parked in the 1600 block of Nethia Drive.

"We want to speak to him. We want to know what his intentions were and why did he take it," Officer Kiara Delva of the Miami Police Department told Patch.

Miami is considered a bird sanctuary, meaning that birds may not be intentionally harmed. It was not clear what the man planned to do with the bird.

One website reviewed by Patch on Wednesday was selling 15 long white peacock feathers for $79.50.
