City Of Coral Gables To Treat Black Olive Trees

Residents who have these trees in front of their homes and want them to be part of the study should contact the city by Feb. 1.

January 29, 2021

The City of Coral Gables is looking to proactively handle the rusty stains that Black Olive trees can create on sidewalks and driveways beneath their canopy. This March, the city will treat some 2,000 Black Olive trees as part of a multi-year citywide staining treatment study. The trunks of these trees will be injected with an insecticide targeting the mite that feeds on the flowers of the tree which leads to the staining. The injection treatment is environmentally safe and is not harmful to animals or humans.
