Every year the Coral Gables Police Department selects the Communications Operator and Police Office of the Year. Team members are selected for going above and beyond the call of duty.

For 2020, the Communications Operator of the Year is Lawanda "Candace" Isaac (pictured left). On Feb. 9, 2020, a gas fire broke out at 1800 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Operator Isaac quickly sprang into action dispatching nine fire units, the State Fire Marshall, FPL, and city building and electrical staff. This is just one of the many calls that she answers and dispatches daily in the Communications Center. She has been a 911 dispatcher for more than 21 years.
