Halloween 2018: Safety Tips For Trick-Or-Treating
While it's the thought that counts on most holidays, that doesn't necessarily hold true on Halloween.

CORAL GABLES, FL — While it's the thought that counts on most holidays, that doesn't necessarily hold true on Halloween, particularly when it comes to homemade treats for children.
"Children should never eat any treats until an adult has inspected all of the candy," warned Erika Benitez of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in releasing the agency's annual tips for trick-or-treaters ahead of Wednesday's holiday.

"Make sure you throw away any homemade treats or anything that is not in a sealed wrapper," she added. See also Miami Halloween 2018 Events: Be Very Afraid

A 5-year-old boy in central Ohio was sickened on Sunday after eating some of his Halloween candy and playing with a toy he received while trick-0r-treating. The boy tested positive for methamphetamine in his system and police were attempting to determine if the candy was tainted.

Meanwhile, Miami-Dade police suggest that children choose homes that are brightly decorated and lighted.
"When trick-or-treating, choose streets that make a collective neighborhood effort for Halloween," police advise. "Do not approach homes that are not lit."
Miami police suggest that trick-or-treaters and their adult sidekicks carry flashlights with new batteries to keep the evening bright.
