The Underline To Get $7 Million Contribution From Coral Gables

The funds will largely come from park and mobility impact fees.

The City of Coral Gables has solidified its contribution to fund The Underline project to a sum certain of $7 million. These funds will largely come from park and mobility impact fees collected by the City from new development within 1,000 feet of the 10-mile linear park project to be built beneath the Metrorail tracks along US1. This $7 million sum certain commitment replaces a previous agreement to fund the Underline with impact fees up to $15 million. Last November, The Underline was awarded a $22.3 million United States Department of Transportation BUILD grant to partially fund the project. The BUILD grant requires local matches to be available on a more accelerated timeline, necessitating the change in the City's finding contribution. The City’s contribution for this urban trail will only apply to the portion of the Underline that runs through Coral Gables.
