Warmest Winter on Record in Miami and Fort Lauderdale

Miami had 69 out of a possible 90 days with temperatures that exceeded 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

MIAMI — In a city known for its beaches and warm weather, this year's winter was something special, dare we say record breaking.

With the end of the meteorological winter on Tuesday, the National Weather Service proclaimed the 2016-2017 season the warmest on record for Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Miami had an average temperature of 74.2 degrees Fahrenheit while Fort Lauderdale came in slightly cooler at 73.3 degrees Fahrenheit.

The meteorological winter runs from December through the last day of February.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the area also broke a record for 80-plus temperature days with 69 out of a possible 90.
