Don Story Legacy Lives In City's Upcoming Series on Safety
A group of Dunedin residents is almost ready to launch a series of public safety seminar named in honor of a man who helped create them.

When Mayor Dave Eggers tasked a group of residents to come up with a plan for addressing public safety concerns, perhaps no one took such a dedicated and passionate approach as Donald Story.
The group brainstormed ways to accomplish the mayor's goal and began planning an ongoing series of educational seminars to launch in the fall.
But, Story, 71, a former police chief in three Illinois cities before moving to Dunedin, passed away on Feb. 25.
"He didn't get a chance to see it through," David Ring, public safety committee member, said.
As the group draws closer to its August launch date, they're making sure the project lives on in Story's name.
City leaders are expected to pass a resolution that formally recognizes the public safety seminar series and names them after Story on Thursday, June 20.
The group, actually a sub-sect of the Public Safety Committee, a volunteer advisory panel to the city, is preparing to unveil plans for its ongoing and broad-reaching series meant to address Dunedin residents' safety concerns, including crime and fire prevention, gun safety, elder fraud, disaster and emergency preparedness, to name a few.
They have joined forces with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Dunedin Fire Department and other officials for several of the initial planned seminars, which will be held monthly at various events and places throughout the city.
The group launches Aug. 16 with "Back to School at Highlander Pool" from 6 to 9 p.m.
