Dunedin Stirling Soccer Girls Among Florida's Best Teams

Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club's competitive girls team for 11-year-olds and under were recognized by the city commission recently for their accomplishments.

The Dunedin Celtic girls looked like tiny Olympic champions when they went before City of Dunedin officials March 21.

All 14 girls in the under 11 competitive Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club league wore their bright green uniforms, medals proudly hung around their necks.

The girls were recognized for taking first place in the 2013 Gator Soccer Showcase Tournament in Gainesville, Gator Division, without allowing a single goal and winning 2-0 in the finals.

And "most recently they made the regency semi finals and a chase for Florida's President's Cup in the premiere division," Mike Haber, vice president of Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club, said. "That means, out of the hundreds of U11 girls soccer teams in the state of Florida they made it to the Sweet 16."

The team overcame many challenges along the way, Frank Morgan, head coach, expressed in a letter Haber read. But each challenge only served to make the girls stronger.
