Largo Announces Road Closures During Sewer Line Replacement

LARGE, FL -- In an ongoing effort to eliminate sanitary sewer over flows in the City of Largo, the Engineering Department's contractor will replace the sanitary sewer line on the west side of Indian Rocks Road from Wilcox Road to Jeff Road and along a portion of Jeff Road as well.

The improvements being made require the intersection of Indian Rocks Road and Wilcox Road to be closed for approximately 17 days, subject to weather conditions, beginning on Tuesday, May 28. Smaller duration closures will occur at the entrance to Siesta Road, Kensington Oak Place and Jeff Road.

A detour route will be set up for the closure to guide motorists to alternative streets.

• The detour for northbound Indian Rocks Road will be:
• East on Walsingham Road
• North on Vonn Road and continue north of Gladys Street
• West on Dryer Avenue

• The detour for southbound Indian Rocks Road will be:
• East on Dryer Avenue
• South on Gladys Street and continue south on Vonn Road
• West on Walsingham Road

In addition, there is a separate detour route specifically designed for truck traffic. That route is:

• Northbound Indian Rocks Road Truck Detour
• East on Walsingham Road
• Continue east on Ulmerton Road
• North on Ridge Road
• Continue north on Clearwater-Largo Road
• West on 8th Avenue Southwest

• Southbound Indian Rocks Road Truck Detour
• East on 8th Avenue Southwest
• South on Clearwater-Largo Road
• Continue south on Ridge Road
• West on Ulmerton Road
• Continue west on Walsingham Road

Unfortunately, properties along the detour route will see increased vehicle traffic during the time of the closure. As the City of Largo works to complete this project, it asks those who will be impacted by the closure for their patience.

Additionally, during the intersection closure, Pinellas County will begin a project to replace the stormwater pipe in the Indian Rocks Road and Wilcox Road intersection. The project will continue replacing sidewalk along the east side of Indian Rocks Road northward to 8th Avenue Southwest.
