Largo Man On Bike Seriously Injured After Hitting Cruiser
Sheriff's deputies are investigating an accident in Largo Friday night in which an electric bike struck a deputy's vehicle.
LARGO, FL — Pinellas County sheriff's deputies are investigating an accident in Largo Friday night in which a deputy's vehicle struck a resident riding an electric bike.
According to investigators, on Friday at 11:22 p.m., Deputy Christopher Lewis, 39, was on duty in his fully marked 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling south on Belcher Road when he stopped at the right curb lane stop bar of Belcher Road for the red traffic signal at Ulmerton Road.
Westbound Ulmerton Road had the green traffic signal but Lewis saw no immediate westbound traffic on Ulmerton Road and proceeded to make a right turn to go west on Ulmerton Road from Belcher Road.

As Lewis was making his turn, 29 year-old Daniel Serrao of Brookfield Drive in Largo, who was operating an Ancheer electric mountain bicycle, pulled out and struck the deputy's vehicle.
Investigators determined that Serrao was riding his electric bicycle in battery mode as he traveled north using the Ulmerton Road crosswalk. Investigators say Serrao was crossing Ulmerton Road on a "Do Not Walk" pedestrian signal when he struck the Tahoe

Serrao was transported to the hospital with serious injuries to his right leg. Lewis was not injured.
