Largo Police Department Announces Pedestrian Visibility Campaign

Largo PD entered into a contract with the Department of Transportation to begin a High Visibility Pedestrian Enforcement camp.

LARGO, FL — On Sept. 14, the Largo Police Department entered into a contract with the Department of Transportation to begin a High Visibility PedestrianEnforcement campaign to educate both vulnerable users and drivers in regards to pedestrian safety.

Officers will be focused on educating pedestrians and bicyclists in regards to their responsibilities when using the roadway, as well as drivers and their responsibilities to pedestrian safety. Officers will be providing safety material, bicycle lights, and bags to violators in hopes of preventing accidents and injury in the future. Crosswalk violations, bicycle light infractions, jaywalking, and failure to yield are examples of the type of enforcement that can be expected.

Pedestrian enforcement is extremely important in Largo due to the high volume, large roadways that cross our city. All road users have a responsibility to safety, but pedestrians have more to lose.
