The man was searching for frisbees while waist-deep in water and used his left hand to pry himself free from the alligator, police said.
LARGO, FLA – A local man got more than he bargained for when he was searching for frisbees in a Taylor Park lake early Friday morning and encountered an alligator.
Travis Spitzer was bitten in the face by the alligator and used his left hand to pry himself free while he was waist-deep in water at around 5 a.m., Largo Police Department spokesman Lt. Scott Gore said in an email on Monday.
Taylor Park includes a disc golf course as well as a lake and boat launch. Spitzer sustained lacerations to his face and hand and was taken to a local medical facility and is expected to survive, Gore said.
